That was me.
Except it wasn't just clothes.
It was everything.
It was late September. I was living in West Belfast. I had just gone through a horrible break-up (that honestly felt good to be out of). I was cold all the time. Nothing made sense. Nothing was working in my life.
Whatever my plan was… it wasn’t working.
Not the kind of lost you feel sometimes on a Monday morning when you don't want to go to work.
I mean really lost.
Like something was broken.
And tbh I was a little worried that I was the thing that was broken.
But worse, I felt like God wasn't with me anymore, like I was all on my own, and that was kind of scary.
So because I’m a good practical Irish woman - and a writer - I started looking for a way to fix it.
To find my way back.
And what happened next really surprised me.
I got a message - completely out of the blue - from a publisher I had worked for previously to ask would I like to be part of a thing where every day I say a little prayer - then write about it - just to see what would happen.
No big church, no religion, no hype, just a little experiment to see if prayer still works these days, and what happens if it does.
I think I liked it because it was low key and honestly at that time I wasn't up for anything big.
But weirdly, as soon as I started doing it, things started to fall into place, almost immediately.
I felt better, and things just started to "work out".
Along the way I moved to a little town in Spain called Cadaqués, where I eat oranges, flirt with beautiful Spanish boys, breathe in the sunshine and rain, and write about one little prayer each day - just to see what happens next.
I pinch myself somedays that it is all real.
That this adventure is my life now.
One little prayer each day - just to see what happens next.
This is that story - it’s happening right now - and I would love it if you join in.
I like to think it will work for you too.

P.S. If you’re up for a bigger adventure - each week I research old prayers (big research writer geek here) and find one big prayer, the ones that seem to move the needle big time, and I record it as an audio in my little home recording studio.
They are kind of beautiful - if I do say so myself.
When people talk to me about this project they say it is nice to be able to simply say a little prayer with someone, and that it feels like we are doing them together.
I like that.
I also have this funny feeling that saying them together somehow makes them bigger.
You can read more about that when you subscribe here.
Is this part of a church or religious group?
It's 100% all me. Just a little project to see what happens if you say a little prayer each day for a year.
Do you offer any guarantees?
This is my project and I am doing it just for fun. If you want to join in I would love to have you along for the ride.
Will this work for me?
Life is short and in my experience there are lots of things to try. I like this and that is why I am doing it. Maybe try it and see for yourself. If you think it is bonkers then at least you will have tried it, and of course you can easily unsubscribe anytime.
But what if it works?
I know right. That is the question I asked myself. What if just saying one little prayer from the heart each day - 100% free - actually works.
